Volunteer
We need your help reaching the many families relocating to the Tucson area.
Here are some ways you, your church or your group can get involved:
Group Adoption (Click here for more info)
Teach English
If you live in America and you speak the English language then you qualify as a teacher for a lucky refugee family. Many refugees can attend free English classes at Pima Adult Education Center, but there are some who cannot go to those classes for various reasons. For example, a mother with young children at home, a man who works difficult hours, or someone who is elderly or disabled. These people really benefit from having a private teacher come to their home. If you are new to this and don't have any experience we can help you get started by giving you some basic instruction and materials.
Throw a Baby Shower
There a many new moms who are far away from their own families when it comes time to give birth. They don't have the support of their own mom, they are feeling lonely (and sometimes sick) and trying to navigate the American health system without a good understanding of the English language. If you and your group/friends want to bless a young family and a new mom you can host a baby shower for them and help them prepare for this new life by giving them some of the necessities that they may not be able to afford.
Tutor Refugee Children
Do you have some extra time to help children with their homework once or twice a week? There are several kids who could really use some extra help in keeping up with their classes.
Make a House a Home
Would you and your group be available to help furnish an apartment for a new arriving refugee family? You can collect furniture and household items, decorate, and even stock the refrigerator if you like. The refugee agency will work together with you to make sure all the necessary items are in place, and whatever your group doesn't come up with, they will supplement.
Donate Supplies
Tucson Refugee Ministry has formed a partnership with some key organizations who help distribute goods to refugees. If you have any furniture or household items to donate, these agencies will be glad to come and pick them up from you and even give you a tax-deductible receipt. Please call-
